LYNDSAY BAHN

Shala Owner & Lead Instructor

Lyndsay Bahn has accumulated over 5,000 hours of teaching experience and over 25,000 hours of training and personal practice in the last 15 years. Owner and lead instructor at the Yoga Shala Carrboro, she is a dedicated yoga practitioner and student of classical yoga. She first found yoga in 1994 at the age of 12 and eventually began her journey on the 8-Limbed path of Classical/Raja yoga in 2006. Lyndsay's studies, asana teachings at the Yoga Shala and her heart have blossomed from yoga philosophy taught in the Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads. Well-known asana teachers who have touched, inspired, motivated and instructed her include Tim Miller of Ashtanga Vinyasa; Peter Rizzo, founder of Bhava Yoga; and Todd Geiser, founder of Yogastha Sadhana.

Scriptures teach that yoga is the dedication to a disciplined lifestyle of practice and non-attachment. With this philosophy as the basis of the Shala's existence, Lyndsay teaches dynamic, vigorous, strength-based vinyasa yoga in sequences that encourage the body to strengthen and open for a focus in movement that eventually leads to more lightness, health, vitality and stillness of mind. Lyndsay empowers students through directive verbal and hands-on cues that aid in a student's practice to reach new heights of awareness on the mat each day. She takes students to new levels in the practice and in life, all while creating a warm, enjoyable, often downright fun atmosphere where all willing bodies, minds and levels of practice are welcome to begin, continue or advance in their journeys.

Lyndsay's formal personal daily practice includes Yoga Sutra and mantra chanting, pranayama, scripture contemplation as it applies to daily life, asana and meditation.
